What We Can Do

A 36-hour multi-colour Tardis, built as a Raspberry Pi 5 case. This is what our print farm produces.

Single colour file?
We can make it multi-colour.

Most 3D printing services output exactly what you give them. We go further. If you have a single-colour STL, we can split the model and print it in multiple materials and colours — turning a basic file into something that looks designed, not just printed.

Real example: A customer brought an M1 Garand bayonet file for a medal display. Originally a flat single colour. We rebuilt the colour zones — metal blade finish on the blade, warm wood-style PLA on the handle. The finished piece looked the part on the wall alongside the actual medal.

Materials & Finishes

All prints are produced in-house on our multi-colour AMS capable print farm. Tell us what you need and we'll recommend the right material.

PLA
Standard eco-friendly material. Best for display pieces, toys, collectibles and general use. Biodegradable.
Heat resistance ~60°C
UV stability Moderate
Flexibility Rigid
Best for Indoors, display, collectibles
PETG
Tougher than PLA, slightly flexible. Good for functional parts and items that need durability over time.
Heat resistance ~80°C
UV stability Good
Flexibility Semi-flexible
Best for Functional parts, outdoors short-term
TPU
Flexible rubber-like material. Ideal for phone cases, protective bumpers, grip pieces and wearables.
Heat resistance ~60–80°C
UV stability Moderate
Flexibility Very flexible
Best for Cases, grips, bumpers, wearables
ABS / ASA
High heat resistance and UV stability. For parts that live outdoors or near heat sources. ASA won't fade in sunlight.
Heat resistance ~100°C+
UV stability Excellent (ASA)
Flexibility Semi-rigid
Best for Outdoors, automotive, heat exposure

PLA — The Most Versatile Choice

Greatest Range of Colours & Finishes

150–200kg

Filament on hand at all times

PLA has the widest range of colours, textures and special finishes of any material we stock. We carry the full Bambu Basic and Matte PLA ranges plus most of their specialty PLA types — meaning no waiting on stock orders and no "sorry, that colour isn't available." If you want a specific colour match or finish, ask and we can almost certainly do it.

Metal Style
Brushed metal appearance. Props, awards, display pieces, cosplay weapons.
Wood Style
Warm timber finish. Works alongside real wood in decor and display contexts.
Sparkle
Glitter-fleck effect that catches the light. Popular for gifts and ornaments.
Silk
High-shine metallic sheen. Colour-shifting under light. Premium display finish.
Marble
Stone-effect surface with natural swirl patterns. Striking for decor and display.

File Formats Accepted

Send us your file in any of these formats. Not sure? Send it anyway and we'll let you know.

STL
OBJ
3MF
STEP
STP
STL — Stereolithography
The most common 3D printing format. STL files describe the surface geometry of a 3D object using triangular faces. Widely supported by all slicers and most CAD software. If in doubt, export as STL.
OBJ — Wavefront Object
A flexible format that supports geometry, texture coordinates and material references. Good for models that include colour information or texture maps. Widely used in 3D modelling software like Blender and Maya.
3MF — 3D Manufacturing Format
A modern format designed specifically for 3D printing. Supports colour, materials and print settings in a single file. Preferred for multi-colour prints as colour zone data is preserved. Used natively by Bambu Studio and Prusa Slicer.
STEP — Standard for the Exchange of Product Data
An engineering-grade CAD format that stores exact geometry rather than triangulated surfaces. More accurate than STL for precision parts. Common output from SolidWorks, Fusion 360 and FreeCAD. We can convert to STL for printing.
STP — STEP File (alternate extension)
The same format as STEP, just saved with the .stp extension. Some CAD applications export with this extension by default. Functionally identical — send it through.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions before people get in touch.

Is there a minimum order size?

No. A $5 print is fine. Note that small low-value orders will incur standard postage costs — it is worth combining items where possible to hit the free shipping threshold at $40.

How do I get a quote?

Send your file or brief through our contact form, or email service@3dprintsmiths.com.au directly. Include the material preference, colour, quantity and any specific dimensions if relevant. We'll come back with a price and timeline.

Can you print a file I bought or downloaded online?

Yes. Send us the file and we'll print it. The only exception is requests that are clearly illegal — those we won't take on. Everything else is fair game.

Can you make my single-colour file multi-colour?

Often yes. We look at the model geometry and advise whether a multi-colour split is achievable. Some models are straightforward (a handle vs blade split). Others are more complex. Depending on complexity, we may request a deposit before digitally editing the file — colour zone work can take significant time. Ask when you enquire and we'll tell you what's possible.

How long does a custom design job take?

Typically around one week from approval to dispatch. Design usually takes 24–48 hours, then print time plus any post-processing (gluing, curing, assembly) before it ships. Complex jobs may take longer — we'll advise upfront.

Do you do local pickup in the Albury-Wodonga area?

Yes. If you are local to the Tangambalanga, Albury or Wodonga area, get in touch and we can arrange collection. We are also happy to drop off locally at no extra charge. Just mention it when you enquire.

What if I am not happy with the print?

If there is a print quality issue or a defect, we will reprint or refund. Custom design work is non-refundable once production begins, but we work closely on approvals to make sure you are happy with the design before we print. See our returns policy for full details.
